Shopify’s Build-A-Business Contest, the springboard for over 3,000 new businesses over the last two years, is back in 2012. Previous years’ winners include the now multi-million-dollar-revenue-generating Dodocase, coffee-lovers’ dream Coffee Joulies, and a host of others. This year, Shopify is coughing up $50,000 in cash to the winner, as well as mentorship prizes with people like Tim Ferriss and Eric Ries.
I participated in this contest last year, and I was proud to be a part of it. I didn’t even come close to winning, but I started 3 businesses because of it. I also started doing web development on the Shopify platform because I liked it so much.
If you’re on the fence, I can wholeheartedly recommend giving Shopify a try: their system is easy to use, and their onboarding gurus don’t get worried when you ask them a whole bunch of questions. I should know – I’ve bothered them a lot in the past two years 🙂
